Dentistry Equipment and Technology

Dentistry is a constantly evolving field. Implementing new technology not only increases accuracy and efficiency for dentists, but also improves quality of care and experience for patients.

X-rays help us to diagnose:

  • cavities
  • infections in the teeth or in the jaw
  • deep gum disease / periodontal disease
  • abscesses or cysts
  • tumors

Digital X-rays

Digital x-rays are an excellent tool to quickly asses your dental needs. Digital x-rays emit up to 80% less radiation than conventional x-rays. And because digital is sent directly to our computers, we don't have to use time and chemicals to process them, saving time during your appointment.

Intra-Oral Camera

Intra-oral cameras are tiny cameras attached to a small wand that allows us to take pictures of your teeth and show them to you on a computer screen. These pictures allow us to show you decay, crack or wear in your teeth.

Isolite

This system allows the dentist to work more quickly and efficiently, in conjunction with offering a more comfortable experience for you as the patient. Isolite is a clear, soft, flexible mouthpiece that you can bite down on in order to rest your jaw. In addition, it is a shield controlling and protecting your cheeks and tongue.

CEREC CAD/CAM Technology (Same day crowns)

This technology allows us to make tooth-colored porcelain crowns in one visit if necessary.

Tekscan Bite Analysis

Most dentists will check your bite using thin colored pieces of paper which when you bite, leave little colored marks on your teeth. This is often adequate to test your bite after a filling is placed. However, these little colored pieces of paper have their limitations. Although the paper may indicate where you are biting, it does not indicate exactly how much pressure you are biting with. If too much pressure is applied in limited areas, this can lead to many dental problems such as tooth pain, headaches, excessive wear on teeth, and clenching and grinding. Tekscan technology is a computerized bite analysis, sending information to a computer to show us exactly where and how much pressure is being applied to each tooth. This tells us WHERE and HOW MUCH to adjust your bite.

Complex Motion Tomography

The American Dental Association (ADA) states that the minimum requirement for treating the temporomadibular joint (TMJ), involves taking a “transcranial” x-ray of the joint. However, not all transcranial x-rays are created equal. CMT provides a high quality x-ray that is superior to most and is only surpassed by the MRI and CT scanning technology.

Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA)

This technology aids us in evaluating the health of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Thorough TMJ evaluation is often an overlooked aspect of dentistry. Everyday we utilize our TMJ to eat and talk, but we rarely give this joint a second thought. That is unless you have developed jaw/joint pain due to deteriorating internal structures of the TMJ. With the JVA, we can evaluate the condition of the TMJ and can often see progressive signs of changes.

Electromyography (Muscle Testing)

Every part of the body involved with eating, talking, ie the teeth, gums, tongue, TMJ, tissues of the mouth and multiple muscles of the head, have to work together properly in order to feel normal. When problems occur such as jaw pain, headaches, tooth pain, etc., using electromyography, we can see the muscles of the head are functioning with the other parts of the body and work to determine what the cause is.
